August 2 (Jamestown ND)

We specifically picked Jamestown as our next stop in order to visit the National Buffalo Museum. The 6000 sq ft facility focuses primarily on the history of bison in the plains culture.

The museum has exhibits, educational programs, and a live exhibit – a herd of about 30 bison, including one rare albino bison. We never did find the live herd but the exhibits were very well done and interesting.

Even though we did not see the "live" herd we did find this big dude out in the field - advertised as the largest buffalo in the world!

Interesting factoid: on our way to Jamestown we stopped for lunch in Carrington and learned this small community has been home to five of N. Dakota’s governors with the latest having been in office since 2010.
