We had an absolute blast visiting with Mary & David. We
picked up the thread of conversation from our trip to Italy as if we had just
left them; hours instead of 4 months!
They have a beautiful home situated on 10
acres complete with a pond and room for their business manufacturing HO and N
scale model railroad parts.
David doesn’t make the trains but he and his crew make
all the accessories for the displays; signs, landscape, little peoples,
stations, towns, pumps, etc. Customers can buy individual pieces or can buy
kits of various sizes. Link here if you want to see some of the displays and
available merchandise: http://www.jlinnovative.com/about.html
In addition to the miniature business David is a gun dealer specializing in
lever action rifles and some automatic pistols.
In addition to the train & gun businesses Mary's primary occupation is all things Human Resources for the St Cloud Public Library system.
On Saturday we drove to Minneapolis to see The Great Mall of
America – OMG! That place is huge and there really is an amusement park with
rides in the middle! In addition to the train & gun businesses Mary's primary occupation is all things Human Resources for the St Cloud Public Library system.
Beautiful St Paul Cathedral:
These historical homes were built right along the shore of
the Mississippi River which I will admit I did not realize flowed this far
north. We even watched a wedding taking place on the front lawn of one of these homes in the historical district:
Sunday breakfast was at Charlie’s Place where Garrison
Keillor used to write his essays about Lake Woebegone. The location was
profiled in the December 2000 issue of National Geographic magazine.
Nearby Albany boasts a thriving business that specializes in
restoring steam tractors.
And all the while we are sightseeing we talk and talk and
talk! And later in the evening after dinner Mary & I work on our knitting while the guys talk, talk and talk!
Tuesday morning comes all too soon and it’s time
for us to move on and let these nice folks get back to their normal routines (and
sleep) but not before we make tentative plans to meet up again for Thanksgiving
in Phoenix.
