Okay, I suppose a bit of an explanation is in order to
account for why we are back in North Bay Ontario…
You’ll remember that earlier this year in April Jay & I
toured Italy, Sardinia and Corsica via motorcycle. In addition to riding
through lush and green countryside we toured several old historical cities,
buildings, churches, shops, etc. And now we just had another wonderful four
days wandering around old, historical Ottawa. Then we learned of an upcoming 3-day holiday
weekend that we realized was contributing to the outrageous hotel prices we
were finding for Montreal and Quebec City. Since this was going to be more
lush, green countryside, old historical cities, buildings, churches, etc. we
sorta looked at each other and said “let’s head back west.”
Never fear, Montreal is still on our “to do” list but we’ve
simply moved it further down and will probably fly there for a long weekend of
sightseeing.
While in North Bay we walked to the laundromat after
breakfast and washed clothes. Later in the afternoon we found Star Trek showing
at the local cinema.
When in Sault Ste. Marie we located our friends Mary
& David Proell and made plans to visit with them over the weekend at their
home in Avon MN.
On the way to Superior WI we made a stop at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum & Lighthouse at Whitefish Point. The U.S. Coast Guard Lifeboat Station at Whitefish Point was established in 1849.
You can spend a night or two in the adaptively restored 1923 Coast Guard Station Crews Quarters. Each of the five themed rooms has a private bath:
